Ah, Magazine Monday. The unofficial holiday celebrated only at my local post office. I can just imagine the workers, sorting mail during the week, coming across magazines and tossing them in a big “Save For Monday” box. Well, maybe not. But it sure seems that way. More often than not, Monday means a big pile of magazines. (Are you as enthralled with that shortcake on Martha as I am? Yum.)
As it rained all day here yesterday, I spent the bulk of the day getting organized: I washed our bedding, including two of the pillows (pillows take forever to dry, by the way – I would suggest you not do it on a rainy day), cleared out my iPhoto of stuff I wasn’t intending to save, got rid of kitchen cabinet catalogs that we don’t need (after giving them a last scan for hardware ideas), cleared off a good area of the kitchen island, which is a sea of paper with two days of school left, and finally sat down to flip through the Monday Magazines. Over the weekend, we had another kitchen meeting, and I feel like the layout is set, but now it’s details and decisions time. I flipped, looking closely at any featured kitchen – analyzing the hardware. I have strong opinions about what I like and want. Great, right? NO – here’s why. I can’t find the stuff I “want” at times. Take kitchen knobs and pulls. Knobs are easy – pretty much any simple, round knob will work. (unless I use latches? but that will take some husband persuading, so it’s probably knobs) Pulls are harder. Yes, the cup-pulls are great, and are my second choice, but then I had to see these incredibly perfect pulls in a Williams-Sonoma catalog. I cannot find something similar, which means that I want them even more …..Finally, if you don’t read Daily Candy London, you might like to check out this London tea shop’s website. Wearetea looks great. I would totally be for one of these opening in Chicago, and going for elevenses.
