It’s August. What meaning does August have for you? Back-to-school, vacation, trying to fit all of the activities you had planned for summer into 31 days? Well, for me, August means primarily September magazines. Fall ads, and lots of them. For the Friday Five, my five most-anticipated September titles:
1. Vanity Fair (not anticipated, I’m reading it right now, but it’s under 20 hours old) The Style Issue, including best-dressed lists. I have to agree with their choices of Selma Blair, George Clooney, and Renee Zellweger. Some interesting political articles as well.
2. Domino Just curious about how they’ll combine fashion and home. Kind of the middle sibling of Lucky and House and Garden.
3. InStyle Don’t spend as much time reading this as I used to (showing my age?), but the ads alone will make it interesting. Oh, and who will win the “What’s Sexy Now” categories? Just kidding – I think that’s the lamest September feature.
4. Marie Claire This title is re-launching in September with the former More magazine editor in charge. I’m a sucker for repackaging. Maggie Gyllenhaal is the cover girl, and this mag has nowhere to go but up, in my opinion.
5. Vogue A given. How heavy will it be? How long will it take to read? Who’s on the cover? Vogue really wins September hands down. Can you plan for fall fashion without it? Seeing it on the newsstand is like seeing the first leaves change color – fall is here!
Have a great weekend!
addendum Oops, I totally forgot about Blueprint! Issue #2 is due in late August – therefore, bump Instyle from the list and replace it with Blueprint. I’m too curious to see what they’ll do (did they find a new editor-in-chief?). I just filled out an online survey for them on the premier issue. Eager, eager anticipation …. and that is what September magazines are all about. (so much for living in the moment)
