The bestest Advent Calendars I’ve seen

Over the past few days, I’ve found two of the most glorious advent calendars. Handmade, from felt, they are both just spectacular. The first is from Brooke at Inchmark. It reminds me of our family’s advent calendar from way, way back, but better. (I refuse to believe she produced this under deadline.)

The second is from the purl bee, and it, too is handcrafted from felt. I really like how colorful this version is, and how adult or older-child suitable it is. The pockets could be filled with candy, notes, or as pictured above, notions. I think if I start on January 2, and dedicate myself, I could have one ready for the three of us in time for the 2009 holidays. (Craftiness is not my gift. Appreciating craftiness is.)

I love that design! I saw it the other day and totally made the same plan for myself. Knowing me though, it’ll still be on my to do on November 30th next year. I am a slow crafter and everything else tends to get put at a higher priority. One of my resolutions this year may be to actually complete all the projects I have started!

These are darling! Reminds me of my childhood. My mom made Christmas stockings out of felt for us. :)

Can I be honest? I started making my advent calendar maybe two years ago.. just by doing ornaments here and there. I had hoped to get it done for Christmas last year, but we had just moved and there was just no way I could find the time.

But this year I just had to get it finished (my oldest child is 4 and I want him to enjoy it). Most of the ornaments were done but I spent the last few weeks making the pockets and the tree and putting the whole sucker together.. and truth be told, I still have 3 ornaments to finish. (but I have a whole two weeks to finish them up!)

Love your blog… thank you for all the lovely inspiration!
