August = September Magazines (part one)

It’s Thursday, also known as the day I go to Barnes&Noble after lunch to see what’s new in the world of magazines. And since it is August, September magazines are hitting the stands. Big, fat, chock-full-of-ads-and-fall-fashion September magazines. I look forward to the September issues all year. There’s nothing like looking at wool and sweaters and coats when it’s 95 degrees in the shade.

Today, I’m hoping to get a look at Glamour and Lucky, and take a peek at Vanity Fair (the style issue! but I’m a subscriber, so I’ll wait for my copy in the mail). It’s the biggest Glamour in 20 years – so that will tempt me. As for Lucky, it all depends on the fashion/beauty mix. Too young, and I’m out. Tempt me with a story about lipgloss, or a cool city in the shops feature, and I’m in.

Lindsay Lohan is the September Elle cover girl (out next week), and normally, this would kill any interest I had in buying it. But Elle is also premiering its redesigned look in September, and I am a sucker for redesigns! The new creative director is Joe Zee, who was the editor at Vitals (a Conde Nast shopping magazine that I loved – unfortunately, not enough “love” led to its shuttering). That’s promising …. you can read more about Elle’s new look in today’s New York Times.

Thinking about my relatives and friends in the Twin Cities today …. don’t forget about the Red Cross if you’re looking to help those affected.
