Emily, Felix and Martha

orange beautiful's chicago studio | simple pretty

Well, it was another busy weekend, with no end in sight. Friday night, we ventured into the city to attend Emily’s Open Studio night. (This is the best photo I took. Of course it is of the food.) It was great to finally meet Emily – we’ve been talking over the blogosphere for awhile now. The party was great, the studio was cute and fun to see, and I met some interesting people. Thanks, Emily! I’m so glad we could make it! Can’t wait to see more from Orange Beautiful! Saturday, we took a drive out to the western ‘burbs for our niece’s 5th birthday, and Sunday was yard work day (and read the papers). Lots of people were hanging lights, which was smart, because it’s supposed to be c-o-l-d next weekend. We are going with the ultra-minimalist pre-lighted wreaths. My strategy this year is to get the gifts purchased and wrapped, and spend time doing activities. Like going to the museum, going skating, having dinner in the city, etc. Keep in mind, this is my plan the week before Thanksgiving. We may have to go to plan B if I don’t get the shopping finished. I just feel that my son will remember events more than “stuff”.

Felix Doolittle, one of my favorite stationers, is scheduled to be on the Martha show today, but I’m not sure whether it was to be live, or pre-recorded. I can’t imagine that Martha will be doing her show this week after her mother’s passing on Friday. (It looks like the show will go on, including a tribute to “Big Martha”. Now I have to watch. I’m guessing that Felix Doolittle is the “secret source.”)

box wreaths with satin ribbons on armoire | simple pretty

For my (little) Martha moment, check out these wreaths I made last week, and hung yesterday, using ribbon I had squirreled away. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. The instructions I used can be found here, courtesy of Martha, of course. See you tomorrow.
