As I tweeted yesterday, I am head over heels in love with the Calvin Klein spring collection, and here’s why:
Some of you may find my fashion choices a little too, say minimal, and wonder how I can wistfully sigh over one black (or nude) dress after the next. I will counter that, when you strip fashion down to simplicity, there’s no “cheat” – the fabrics have to lay correctly, the seaming and cut must be precise, and there’s no margin for error. I spent some time thinking about this today, and decided that there is no way that Calvin Klein could ever have a pop-up collection at Target. The necessary cost-cutting to make it affordable for the masses would make every flaw glaringly obvious, and what was once beautiful would look compromised. And that’s not a slam of designers who have had successful Target runs. I loved Isaac at Target! It’s just that sometimes, beauty doesn’t hit you over the head. And that’s the kind of beauty that is most appealing to me.
Anyway, I digress. Francisco Costa’s collection for Calvin Klein is, as always, sublime. Sexy with the slip-as-clothing theme, but construction and understated color to appeal to the cerebral at the same time. Click over to Style.com to see it all.
