A Weekend of Weather Perfection

Finally. Summer (and good weather) is here. I’ve been waiting so long for this California-like sunshine and temperatures to make its way to Chicago. It doesn’t stay long, (cue the humidity) but while it’s here, it’s heavenly. We were outside for most of the weekend soaking it in. Saturday, I helped out at a neighborhood garage sale, and sold three of the four “big ticket” items we brought. 2008 is shaping up to be all about getting rid of stuff. From 9 ’til 3 we sat, and chatted, and watched the comings and goings of customers. My son had to sit out the weekend sporting activities, as he rebroke his front tooth on Friday at 4:55 p.m. (Yep, it’s a permanent tooth, but it should be completely fixed and ready to go on  Tuesday.)

Sunday, I tried to be outside as much as possible. I went for a run quite early (which really made the day seem extra-long), and then read the paper outside, followed by magazines flippings, and admiring the gardens. A glass of wine, too. Ahhhh, the joys of summer ….

With the kitchen still unusable, I’m spending more time than usual thinking about food. (Not making cookies every day, the cheating way, is killing me!) This article, by Patricia Leigh Brown, about a First Wednesday supper club in Sunday’s Magazine sounds perfect. Even though I’m a perfectionist a la Martha, in my case it’s served with a good side of hokey. Even the recipes were tempting! See my favorite here. How will I convince my block to get something similar going, stat? Unsure.

See you tomorrow.
