Where would I be without my gadgetry, and my internet? So much to be thankful for. The gratitude starts with my iPod: Seriously, it could be the best invention ever. I love that I can change just one song on a playlist, and it livens up my three-times-a-week running habit. (I’m getting a little faster, so I like to say “running” instead of “jogging”. Optimism!) This week, I am ultra grateful for Feist’s “I Feel It All”. (links to the video – oh but now I think you should visit youtube to see her performance on the Jimmy Kimmel bus last May.) Her song makes the treadmill endurable, and makes me sprint when I’m outside. Thanks, Feist!
Speaking of things one can listen to, what about podcasts? I’ve heard some fabulous interviews with indie artists by Grace from Design*Sponge, never have to miss This American Life, and when Laura Bennett is interviewed by Blogging Project Runway, I can just click and listen. And French lessons! and concerts! (Seriously, I’m beginning to understand why Oscar winners drone on and on. You keep thinking of more things/people to thank.)
And then there’s the crazy goodness of the internet. My son is 10, and yet I have a curious fascination with the Bugaboo stroller. Thanks to this week’s New York magazine, available online, I can read all about the strollers I don’t have, and compare/contrast, and ponder what I would own if it were 1997 all over again. No embarrassing conversations in the stroller store. (“Are you pregnant?” “No, I just love the design of the Bugaboo, thanks.”) Not to mention that when I snap out of the stroller crazy, New York will be ready to feed my fall fashion craving starting this Friday. (They’re ready now with previews! Bonus!)
On an enormously grateful note, there are the tons and tons and oodles and oodles of bloggers/flickr-ers/etsy-ers who inspire me on a daily basis. I cannot mention them all, and will not even try to, because I fear leaving out a favorite someone unintentionally. The connectivity the internet provides is such a blessing to me. (The tv goes out, and I wait it out. The internet goes down, and I pace.) There are days that I’ll be feeling blue, and then I’ll read about someone who seems to love stationery, or Emma Bridgewater, or birds (don’t even get me started on how grateful I am for Flickr), or name my obsession here, just as much as I do. It’s a wonderful thing, being able to share your passion with others. It’s a bright light of individualism in the mall-ified world. I am so grateful for those of you out there who inspire me. Thank you.
I’ll see you tomorrow with more gratitude. As always, feel free to add your comments below.
