The First Snow

Doesn’t look like much, now does it? And yet, because it was the season’s first, we ended up going straight to my sister’s wedding reception on Saturday. Our journey took 2 1/2 hours, and we were nowhere close to getting off of the expressway when the ceremony started. It was quite stressful, watching the GPS calculate (and re-calculate) our arrival time. For the first hour, I totally believed we would somehow be able to pull it off. Then, as the time of arrival approached and then passed the start of the service, we sadly went to Plan B. I haven’t gone to “just the reception” in a long, long time. Like back in my singleton days. Thankfully, the reception was far superior to the commute, and everything ended up fine. The room (at a downtown Chicago hotel – fun to arrive at during the holiday shopping rush) was beautiful, the food and drinks were excellent (complete with martini bar, so I could indulge my new pomegranate martini fixation, which I realize in no way shape or form resembles a real martini) and seeing family and friends was so nice. K’s dress was lovely – it would have been nice to see her in it at the church, but that was out of our hands. The drive home took about 35 minutes.

Sunday was spent just kind of hanging out. It was one of those quiet, winter, break days you need every once in a while. It rained, and most of the snow is gone at this point. But it’s December 3. There will be plenty more snow days to come …..

Have a nice Monday!
