Happy Halloween! No doubt, at some point today I’ll be digging into the stash of candy, looking for a little taste of the goodies. (Ah, Butterfingers – so tasty!) And yet today’s NYTimes reminds me that I could be so much healthier, and age slower, if I ate a LOT less – 30% less ideally. To illustrate, a photo shows that Canto the calorie-restricted rhesus monkey does look a lot better at age 25 than Owen, fed a typical diet, and age 26. Read the article, and see the monkeys’ photos at nytimes.com. Additionally, last week’s New York magazine covered Calorie Restriction, with author Julian Dibbell’s chronicle of a month of calorie-restriction in The Fast Supper. (He quits the diet.)
Interesting stories, but not what I wanted to read as we start the holiday season, and begin the feast that is candy, turkey, pie, eggnog …. TRICK or treat?
